Cost guide

What forklift repair costs in the LA corridor.

Every forklift shop in this market is quote-only, and the dealers charge the region’s highest labor rates while printing none of them. Here is our actual 2026 working table. The industry backdrop comes from Intella’s 2026 dealer labor rate survey: a $180 per hour national dealer average, with major metros running $215 to $225 and nearly all dealers adding a travel charge of roughly one labor hour. Our rates sit under the dealer tier because a corridor operation does not carry dealership overhead, and the invoice matches this table.

Job typeTypical rangeWhat moves the price
Hourly labor$165 per hourFlat, published, all makes; dealers in the region run $200 to $240
Travel / service call$95 flat, whole radiusOne rate Montebello to El Monte; no zone games
Minor repair (hose, seat, switch, small leak)$270 to $500 all-inParts class; whether the symptom was described on the phone
No-start diagnosis + fix$260 to $600Electrical no-starts usually resolve same visit; fuel-system jobs can add parts
Brake job$900 to $1,400Truck class and drum condition; 10k pneumatics at the top
Mast chain / roller work$600 to $1,800Chain pairs, roller count, and mast stage
Fork pair, replaced + documented$450 to $900Class and length; bent forks are an OSHA out-of-service item
PM visit (per truck)$140 to $220Truck class and duty; program pricing on the PM page

How a service call actually runs

  1. You call with the make, model, and symptom; we quote the likely band from this table on the phone.
  2. The tech dispatches with the probable parts on board, same-day for calls before mid-afternoon.
  3. Diagnosis is confirmed on site; anything beyond the phone quote gets approved before wrenches turn.
  4. The repair is completed, tested under load, and documented per unit for your OSHA file.

The compliance backdrop

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178(q) requires powered industrial trucks to be kept in safe operating condition, repaired only by authorized personnel, and removed from service when defective. That is why every visit we make produces a written per-unit record, and why the industry PM interval of every 200 to 250 operating hours (see Conger’s maintenance guide) and BigRentz’s maintenance overview) is the backbone of the planned maintenance program. Area specifics live on the city pages, from Vernon to City of Industry.

Cost questions, answered straight

Why does no forklift shop publish rates?

Because quote-only pricing floats with the urgency of the call, and down-truck calls are urgent. The dealer-survey data is public, the 2026 Intella survey put national average dealer labor at $180 an hour with LA-comparable metros well above it, yet no shop in this market prints a number. We publish ours and the invoice matches the table.

What is the travel or service call charge?

One flat travel call for the whole dispatch radius, published in the table above, in line with the industry norm of roughly one labor hour. No zone pricing games inside the corridor: Vernon and El Monte pay the same call.

What makes the same repair cost more on one truck than another?

Parts class and access, mostly. A brake job on a 5,000 pound cushion truck uses different parts money than the same job on a 10,000 pound pneumatic; older trucks sometimes add parts-hunt time; and buried components (some pump and cylinder jobs) add teardown hours. The quote spells out which applies before work starts.

Is it worth fixing an old truck or should we replace it?

The honest math: this repair, plus the likely next two on a truck of that age and hours, against realistic used pricing. For limited-hours duty a paid-off classic usually wins; for three-shift duty the newer truck usually wins. We put the numbers in writing and have recommended against our own repair plenty of times.

Do maintenance customers get different repair pricing?

PM customers get the same published rates plus priority dispatch, and their repairs cost less in practice because problems get caught at the 200-hour service instead of at failure. The planned maintenance page publishes the program pricing.
